Totara Fun Day

Today on the 7th of December the whole senior school had a fun day to celebrate the year.We got a ticket with a variety of activities and where they were held.The first activity I done was making a mouse out of felt and a candy cane.First we got a template then cut it out onto the felt.Then once we got all of our bits altogether we would hot glue them altogether to make it into one.Once we finished everything we got to pick a candy cane to make a tail.Next I went to the cooking and I had to wait in a horrendously long line.But once I got my waffles it wasn't the best one I have tasted but it was fine.After cooking I went swimming.When I got into the pool it was freezing cold.We didn't really

Athletics Training 2018

On Monday the 5th of November the whole senior school is going to do athletics.We are doing training of every sport that is going to be included.There is high jump , long jump , shot put , running , and discus but I am going to just talk about running and high jump.

First I am just going to talk about high jump and tips that could help you.If you run up slowly and then gradually get faster, jump and scissor kick your legs.You should land on you feet and not jump backwards because you might fall off and hit your head .

Second running.When you run you should swing your arms beside you to create more momentum.You should also lean forward but not to forward or else you might fall and land on your face.When you start you should be on one knee and lean forward so then you can get a running head start.

My Goals 2018

It is almost the end of this school year and I still have so many goals to work on but the ones i have to especially work on for maths is Fractions to decimals to percentages.With that I'm a bit stuck on and I know that I should work on that the most so I can get better at it.I'm starting to get the hang of it but I still need a lot of practice to do.

For reading the thing I have to work on the most is inferring so then I can get better and so it will be at an even level with all the other reading goals.I'm getting on with it and I'm almost there but I still need some help.

For writing I should work on is to re craft to improve content and message so then I can make more sense to talk to the audience.I still have a lot of mistakes in my writing and whenever I think of this goal it reminds me to do this

Exploration Project

Last week we did this exploration thing were we would join a classroom project to learn something new.I went to room 12 and did clay moulding with Kim and Emily.The first thing we did was we sat down and saw some examples of what we could do.And then we found a seat and then she handed out a piece of Plasticine to warm it up so then it could be softer to mould.Once it was soft enough we started moulding.I created a rose and 

S.T.E.A.M Project

On the 31st of July we entered this project thing called S.T.E.A.M which stands for Science,Technology,Engineering,And Math .The first we did was enter the hall and then the teachers were explaining what the S.T.E.A.M project is all about.And then this man came in and then told us about keeping the environment clean an healthy and well.

After the big talk we followed the teachers to the activities and I did stick man animations with Mrs Todd but there were a bunch of other options such as Break out edu,Chopsticks,knitting,scratch,Pixel art and other things.The first thing we did was going into this practice game thing and then we had to draw a person and some objects.And then after the practices we went onto these game activity things where we would draw a stick man and then add another frame to create a stick man animation.And there was another activity where we would do an animation with a pre made stick man.
 

Hei Tiki Museum Trip

On Tuesday the 26th of June we went to the museum for a museum trip to learn more about the Maori culture and hei tiki's. We went inside the museum tea house.We were learning about hei tiki's and what they are made for. The hei tiki is carved out of green stone or whale bone and they are used to give to a lady when they get married and is is used for good luck to have a lot of children and it gets passed down through generation for more good luck.First we were examining some hei tiki's and then we were looking at some photos and wondering what it was okay to use it in and what was not okay.And then we were going to be the artist and create our own hei tiki's. First we had to trace around a template and then cut it out.Next we had to sew on some buttons as the eyes.After we glued on some more felt to create the details to the hei tiki to complete it.

My hei tiki has the colours of a light orange brown that looks like the colour of cardboard mixed with white.The eyes is a light lime green with navy blue thread.The arms , legs and accessories are a navy dark blue.The hands is a bright orange same with the feet and the mouth.

Adapting A Game

 On 21st of June we were adapting normal games to another version of the game.We made an adaption of The uncle wiggily's game and turned it into a fast food game called the wiggles.I worked with Julianne and Vanessa.The way we found out what game to adapt I looked up old board games and found a game called uncle wiggily. After I found out uncle wiggily I told my group and then they came up with an idea to turn it into fast food.We used two shoe boxes for the main part of the board game, Some yellow paint to colour some paper, Paper to make it usable and colourful and stationary like felt and colouring pencils to make the characters.Julianne drew some fast food and stuck it on to the board and then we made up some rules if you land on one of the villains because you have to do what the villain says like if it says "move back 3 steps" you have to move back 3 steps.

Sacred Heart Art

Today was the sacred heart mass.So we got a piece of paper to draw on.Jesus' sacred heart represents the love he has for us.The flames represents Jesus' burning love for us.The cross represents the crucifixion the ultimate sacrifice.The crown of thorns represents Jesus' suffering and agony.I drew a cross with his heart with the crown of thorns on it and a scar with burning flames surrounding it.

Cross Country

On the 28th of May we had cross country.I was nervous and kind of excited at the same time.The only thing that made me a bit relieved was that I knew that I would be running with people I know.The only thing that I was excited about was taking the car ride to the red woods.When they called up the 10 yr old girls I got incredibly nervous.The track was really tiring but my favourite part was the down hill part.Once I got to the finish line I was so relived to finish and relax and overall cross country was a really fun experience this year. 

Bikewise

 On Monday there were three people that taught us how to bike safely.First of all we had to listen to instructions Hough gave us and then we all had to get a helmet and then hold it like a baby.After that we put on the helmet and then we put two fingers over our eyebrows and then tightened the helmet.After it was the perfect size we had to line up smallest to tallest and then he would tell us what bike to get.After we got our bikes we had to do the safety check.The safety checks were the brakes,quick release,handle being tight and tire pressure.Once we checked everything we rode our bikes around the court.And then we got into a line and then we had to ride in between some cones so we could practice balancing and then at the end of the line we had to use the brakes to stop and then ride around again.After that we did the same thing but about in the middle of the line we had to stand up and then brake then stop.Once we finished that we had to ride around the cones and after that we packed up and finished.

Maths Jelly Capacity

At school we learned how to measure in millilitres.So the teachers thought of a fun way for the children to learn and they chose to make rainbow jelly.

First we had to measure how much in total we wanted in our cups and we chose 220 but then we changed it to 200.Secondly me and my group chose to make it all 40 ml but we changed it a bit.The first layer we did was strawberry red jelly and we made it 40 ml.The next day we did lemon yellow jelly and that one was 30 ml.The next day we did lime green jelly and it was 40 ml again.And today we did orange jelly that was 50 ml.

Overall I think it was a really smart way of learning how to learn about Litres and millilitres in a really fun way and I thought it was a really fun experience to do this and I'm really excited to eat the jelly. I've learned lots about millilitres and litres and now I would know how to measure liquids without messing it up cause I tend to mess things up a lot and I'm glad to have a fun time to learn. 

Food Science

Minecraft Camp Creation

Me and Julianne worked together to recreate something from camp and create it in minecraft and we chose to do the sky tower because it was easy and we couldn't think of anything else.It was kind of easy to make so I built the base and then put some light inside and then filled it with water so then it would be like an elevator and then I put a sky jump then Julianne put some windows.It didn't really look like the sky tower but I tried.

Jesus Tomb

Today on Friday the 6th of April we recreated the tomb that he had been laid in before he rose from the dead.

So the story of the resurrection is starts with Easter and then one of the disciples betrayed him and the pilot just sent him to die and many other people didn't believe that he was the son of God.So then they put the crown of thorns on his head and then gave him a cross to carry.While he was carrying the cross people were spitting and hitting him.Once he got to the top of the mountain they nailed him to the cross and then later on he died.After a few hours of his death bad things started to happen and one of the guards said "He really is the son of god".Later on they took him down from the cross and then later on laid him in the tomb.After three days Mary and some other ladies went to check and see his body but all they saw that the rock rolled to the side and went inside and saw a part of his clothes.And went they went back they saw Jesus and Jesus said "I have risen from the dead".

When we made the tomb I had a Styrofoam cup,dirt,grass,rocks and sticks. 

Swimming Sports Reflection

On Tuesday the 13th of March it was swimming sports.I competed in Freestyle,Backstroke and breaststroke.In backstroke I got in second,In breaststroke I got second as well and in freestyle I got first.Before swimming I felt really nervous and scared but by surprise I got second and first.After a race I got very cold so I wore my jacket and my towel.All I saw was a huge bunch of students yelling,laughing and chatting.The length races I thought it would get me really tired so I just did relaxing swimming and to try not to stress myself too much.Swimming sports was really fun but tiring at the same time.I would say that I could improve on swimming faster,gaining confidence for swimming and to gain more stamina.I am impressed on what my place was in the race and I'm glad I went to swimming sports it was really fun.The best part of the day for me was relaxing after the race and staying warm and quietly eating my lunch.Overall swimming sports was a fun experience although I was really stressed about it I had lots and lots of fun.

multiplication Room 3

At school in Room 3 we are doing our times tables.So Mrs Dunkley gave us a sheet of paper with all the times tables up to 10 and we highlight the ones that we know fully well and I know all of mine so I highlighted all of them.I know all of the times tables up to 10 because I've been learning since I was about a junior in St Mary's.Through my life I got interested in math so I would ask my parents if they could challenge me in my math.First I just started with basic addition then easy subtraction then challenging addition with challenging subtraction.Then I moved on to multiplication.At the start it was really challenging for me but I liked it a lot so I didn't want to give up.So I carried on doing my multiplication and it lead me here with all of my multiplication.

Children's Day Artwork

Room 3 is the only class in St Mary's that will represent the school on children's day at the red woods.First we got a canvas and then we got some coloured dye and I chose green and then we just dabbed the paintbrushes on the canvas then it would bleed out and form a cross or star shape and we had to spread stars and crosses all over the canvas and then wait for it to dry.

 After we were finished painting the dye on the canvas,we got some different types of leaves and the different varieties look really good with different colours.The next day we practised painting leaves and printing them onto a piece of paper.We had to be very careful to print it on because it could spread around on the paper and there was no printing back on.I got kind of nervous on printing it because I was scared if I was going to mess it up a bunch.

When we practised it enough that we almost mastered it,we started to print on the real canvas.When we were going to get ready for the leaf printing I got really nervous and I just kept looking around if people have already started so then I did my first leaf.It didn't turn out so good but not too bad.I did a few orange leaves then I moved on to doing purple leaves.I just did a bunch until Mrs Dunkley told me and some other few people to show Mr Macmillan.After doing all the painting I was sort of proud of the work but I knew I could improve on my art skills.It looked really good if it was overlapped because the colour would overtake the colour at the bottom.   

Lent

Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent and a day when you will make a promise and then they will burn the promises with psalm leafs and turn it into ash then make a cross on your forehead with ash.When I was receiving the ashes I felt determined to keep the promise for the 40 days.They put the ashes on your forehead to remind you to keep the promise you make.

All About Me Bag

This bag is my me bag.The things surrounding it are the objects in the me bag.Today at school we showed the me bag to some people.We filled the me bag on what was important to us and what we like.The things I put in my bag was a K-pop bookmark because I like to listen to k-pop music and my favourite group is Twice and BTS,A lego land key chain because I went to lego land in the holiday,A picture of a sushi pug because I like drawing , painting and dogs,And the final object that I have is a photo of me baking brownies because I love and enjoy baking new things.
